Pop-Up Blockers and Web Filters

Pop-Up Blockers

I would need a Pop-Up Blocker if I didn't have one because it controls interference from advertisers and perhaps explicit material not suitable for young computer users.

1.(Kaspersky $59.99 and Internet Explorer pop-up blocker in my browser)
www.kaspersky.com
Kaspersky is my favorite in this category because I have it and it does a great job blocking pop-ups. It has excellent pop-up blocking protection but can interrupt me from time to time. Kaspersky has a high price so finding a good discount is important.
System requirements- MS Internet Explorer 6 or higher. Windows XP, Windows 7,and Windows Vista.

2.Adscleaner v.4.3 $34.95
www.adscleaner.com
Adscleaner with Internet explorer
Ad blocker, pop-up blocker, and an privacy online feature. It automatically upgrades ad blocker list.
http://www.pcmag.co.uk/downloads/1154138
System requirements- Windows: NT/2000/XP

3.AVG - free of charge
free.avg.com
Terrific url blocker
One flaw is that doesn't have parental controls.
System requirements- Windows 2000 to Windows 7 x64 edition.

I would choose Kaspersky, Adscleaner, or AVG. I like the way Kaspersky blocks pop-ups with Internet Explorer. I like AVG too, because of its features and I don't share my computer with children so parental control is not a big problem for me. I like Adscleaner the best because of all the extra features that are added to the pop-up stopper.

Web Filters

I believe I would need a web filter for the disruptive content that try to show itself on my computer. I am happy to have excellent Pop-up Blockers and web filters installed on my computers, so I don't have nuisances that may come with being unprotected.

1.Safe Eyes $49.95
Content, parental, and time controls make this product a standout. Also has filtering game options. Instant alerts and it syncs with Safe Eyes Mobile. Available for PC and Mac/ A bit pricey though.
System requirements- Windows XP/2000/NT/XE/98/Mac

2.Content Protect $39.99
Great, affordable internet filtering, but it's not advanced in it's monitoring abilities. Immediate web site unblocking available which is hard to find on the market today. Can access your information from any computer.
System requirements- Windows Operating Systems

3.K9 Web Protection- free of charge
This filtering software is excellent for families. Filters out potentially dangerous email. Easy to download and it's free.
System requirements- Windows Operating Systems 2000/XP/Vista

I like them all, I wish I could take the best features from each program. (www.internetsafety.com and www.wellresearchedreviews.com were very helpful and informative websites.)

  1. Is there someone besides you that uses your computer? Someone for whom you'd want to control access to the internet? If not, you do not need a web filter.
